ProtoVid is a Figma Community plugin that reads the prototype connections defined in Figma's Prototype panel, follows the connected path, and exports the walkthrough as an MP4, WebM, or GIF product demo video. No screen recording, no editing timeline, no external video editor. Optional browser-based review rooms let stakeholders leave timestamped comments and set approve or request-changes status without a Figma account or access to the source file.

## How it works (step by step)

1. **Install**: add ProtoVid from the Figma Community (search "ProtoVid" or use the direct link).
2. **Open**: in Figma, open the plugin on a page that has a connected prototype flow.
3. **Detect**: ProtoVid scans prototype connections and shows the frames in the order a viewer would see them.
4. **Configure**: choose format (MP4, WebM, GIF) and quality (720p Free or 1080p/4K paid). Adjust frame duration if needed.
5. **Export**: the plugin encodes the walkthrough locally when supported, or sends the fallback payload to the backend encoding endpoint for MP4.
6. **Download or share**: download the file, or (on Project Pass/Pro) generate a browser review room with a decision brief and approval link.

## What ProtoVid does not do

- Screen recording or general video editing.
- Interactive prototyping (ProtoVid reads existing connections; it does not create them).
- Static design export (no PDF, PNG export — ProtoVid is for connected flows only).
- Export of non-prototype frames or pages with no connections.

## Privacy and data handling

- **Scoped capture**: only frames in the selected connected path on the current Figma page are captured.
- **Local encoding first**: the plugin attempts local MP4/WebM/GIF encoding in the browser before falling back to the backend.
- **Backend fallback**: if local encoding is not supported, the fallback video payload is sent to ProtoVid's encoding endpoint.
- **Review link retention**: Free review links are available for 7 days; paid review links for 30 days. Expired review video files, comments, and owner links are physically deleted by a daily retention cleanup.
- **No AI account required**: review briefs are generated on-platform from export metadata and review-room state.
